Faults in the implementation of VoIP in communications providers in Israel – IPv4 addresses

In the last year, more and more users are experiencing connectivity issues with real-time applications (VoIP, Boradcasting, Gaming). This is because of the increasing use of ISP providers, especially small ones, in the use of Double NAT.

Today exactly a year ago (24/9/2015) ARIN (North American Internet Registrar) provided the latest IPv4 address and since then only IPv6 has been provided. For them it is not a problem because all ISPs were already prepared for it.
Israel belongs to the European Union RIPE, which has been working for a long time in an emergency format in terms of the distribution of IP addresses, version 4. But even there, almost everyone is already prepared in terms of version 6.

In Israel, all Internet traffic is IPv4-based and there are no real estimates for switching to version 6.
In terms of the state’s assessments, no one cares, certainly not the government that is engaged in nonsense with Bezeq regarding the abolition of structural separation and / or the wholesale market.

Because the stock of IP addresses in Israel is in serious distress, ISP providers use additional NAT address translation for its customers, meaning that ISPs provide illegal IP addresses to users who also perform additional NAT for computers / accessories in the company and even every home router performs internal NAT.
Real-time applications immediately suffer from this and hence customers experience problems.
Even customers who purchase a fixed IP address and pay money for it are not aware that providers are actually using the same address for a large number of customers while sharing ports.
That is, a customer who buys and pays for an IP address and expects to receive the entire range of ports actually gets a limited range and thus the provider “sells” the same address to a large number of customers.

We will not name names but currently the only providers that do not observe dual NAT use are 012 and 013 (at least for those who pay for a fixed address) but as time goes on the distress only increases.

Are these providers’ actions legal? It’s not exactly clear, because as long as a customer pays for a fixed IP address and does not receive it, it is “work in the eyes”.
On the other hand, day by day it seems that this is a necessary action for proper functioning, especially on the part of the small providers who do not have a sufficient inventory of IP addresses.

What actually happens to customers in Israel?
Let’s start with the fact that there are applications that are particularly affected by the use of VoIP and Broadcasting, the cellular customers also experience these problems because most of the DATA traffic in the cellular is done as dual NAT.
In addition the speed is compromised of course, customers who only “surf” the internet will not notice but any action that requires a long Session will be harmed and the customer will feel it very well.

Will the inability of the government and the Ministry of Communications cause Israel to be disconnected from the Internet, as experts and consultants warn, that day by day more Internet servers are switching to IPv6 and all those in IPv4 will not be able to access them?
The answer is no, all vendors will use a technique called NAT64 thus allowing version 4 and 6 systems to live together but even these systems are limited and speed is affected and with each passing day more and more users and servers connect in version 6.

Will the entire range of addresses in Israel end?

The answer to that is no.
A. Vendors’ use of dual NAT allows more and more units to continue to be “connected” to the network.
B. The Israeli Internet Association holds an additional inventory of IP addresses that have not yet been shared.
third. As the world moves to IP version 6, IP version 4 addresses are released back which will be redistributed to the “retarded” countries that have not yet switched to IPv6 (Israel is among the few in the world today).

Currently 018 and 014 are set to IPv6 but what about all of them ?? As usual in Israel we will wait for the last minute, a committee will be set up and then another committee and at the end a committee of inquiry.

It should be noted that all of Blobint’s servers that provide IP PBX services in the cloud fully support IPv6.
Each network unit that works in IPv6 automatically connects to one of the overseas servers which provides it with full PBX services.
